Field of Work
Prof. Andreas Wortmann's research goal is to make the engineering of cyber-physical systems more efficient, reliable, and sustainable by involving experts from various non-informatics domains, such as mechanical engineering, production engineering, and medicine. He is researching the necessary modeling principles, methods, and tools, as well as their application in automotive, Industry 4.0, robotics, and other domains, and their transfer into industrial practice.
To this end, he develops novel concepts for the development of suitable modeling techniques, for their semantic foundation, for the automatic derivation, analysis, and synthesis of models, and for their use in the form of digital twins for the intelligent and sustainable representation, analysis, and control of cyber-physical systems.
Personal Information
Andreas Wortmann, born 1982, studied computer science at RWTH Aachen University, where he received his PhD in 2016 from the Chair of Software Engineering. After visits to France and Sweden, he headed a working group in model-driven system engineering as a tenured postdoctoral fellow at RWTH Aachen University. Since January 2021, he strengthens the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart.
Andreas Wortmann is a board member of the European Association for Programming Languages and Systems (EAPLS) and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal on Software and Systems Modeling, the Journal of Object Technology, and the Journal of Automotive Software Engineering. He also leads the Model-Based Systems Development working group of the German Society for Systems Engineering (GfSE).
