Areas of Research: Simulation Sciences, Materials Science-New Materials-Biomaterials
Thematic Priority: Computer simulations of electrons and atoms, processes in materials, material properties and design

Field of Work

The research of Prof. Grabowski focuses on the development and application of high-precision, ab initio-based simulation methods. An overarching goal is to determine reliable material properties for the design of new materials. Ab initio means that the methods are based on fundamental, quantum mechanical principles and do not require any experimental input. A very special expertise of Prof. Grabowski is the calculation of material properties at finite temperatures. For this purpose, efficient, statistical methods are being developed, which are primarily coupled with concepts from machine learning. Application examples are materials for novel batteries or hydrogen storage.

He focuses on Computer simulations of electrons and atoms, understanding of processes in materials on the smallest scale, determination of materials properties and improvement and design of materials, especially for materials for batteries und hydrogen-storage.
