Chemistry in Stuttgart: Research. Understand. Shape the Future.
Chemistry plays a key role in virtually every aspect of life—from energy and materials to food and cosmetics. But how are new substances created? And how can chemistry be made sustainable and environmentally friendly?
In the Master’s program in Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart, you will build on the knowledge gained during your Bachelor’s program and expand it through current research questions and modern methods. You will research novel substances and materials, analyze chemical processes, and develop innovative solutions to challenges in areas such as energy generation, conversion and storage, catalysis and sustainability, smart materials and molecules, and biochemical technologies and processes. In doing so, you will plan and conduct carefully designed experiments, analyze complex data, and gain new insights. Through integrating theory and practice and collaborating across disciplines, you will gain the skills needed for demanding roles in research and industry and ultimately help build the future.

This program requires a solid foundation in the core areas of chemistry, particularly inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, technical and theoretical chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biochemistry as well as the relevant fundamentals of mathematics and the natural sciences. Because these disciplines form the foundation of the Master’s program in Chemistry, we expect your application to include documentation of completed coursework and practical laboratory experience in these areas.
Applicants are also expected to have a passion for chemistry, a curiosity about the natural world, a strong understanding of science and mathematics, and an interest in experimentation. Other important personal qualities include perseverance, self-motivation, teamwork, and independence, particularly in organizing your own learning and work.
