In the Political Sciences additional subject study program leading to the Master’s degree in Education (M.Ed), students on the Bachelor’s level acquire the basics and first in-depth knowledge and proficiency and then, on the Master’s level, more specialized knowledge and competencies. This applies to both the subject science as well as subject-specific pedagogy. In the subject science, the focus is on the four key political science sub-fields: “The Political System of the Federal Republic of Germany,” “Comparative Analysis of Political Systems,” “Political Theory,” and “International Relations.” Political Sciences being part of the Institute of Social Sciences facilitates an orientation to analytical theoretical approaches and empirical research methods.
The additional subject Master’s degree is always studied in conjunction with standard teaching degree studies. The Master’s lets students achieve the right to teach a third subject.
The political sciences teaching qualification study program (M.Ed.) requires being interested in social and political questions and having a good knowledge of English. In addition, the study program assumes there is an interest in teaching political science and its ways of thinking in the classroom.
