Prof. Elias Klemm, Head of the Institute of Technical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart, has been awarded with the DECHEMA Medal for 2020. In giving the award to Prof. Klemm, DECHEMA wanted to honor his special achievements in the field of reaction technology, in which he has played a particularly active role both in sitting on committees as well as at events. The prize was awarded during a “Virtual Talk” held on November 19, 2020 as part of a series of lectures on the CHEM|ampere project.
Elias Klemm has been involved with DECHEMA for many years. He played a leading role in combining the Technical Reactions working group and the Reactions Technology specialist group , and closely accompanied the further development of the newly established specialist group . Beyond that, he played an important role in his position as chairman of the Annual Meeting on Reaction Engineering, which in recent years has developed into an established conference with participants from around the world.
The DECHEMA Medal for outstanding achievements in the field of chemical apparatus technology and for special commitment to the field of chemical engineering was first awarded in 1951 to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V. (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology).
Elias Klemm, born in 1965, studied Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Technical Chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he obtained his doctorate in 1995. After his habilitation in 2001, he first taught at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg before being appointed as Professor of Technical Chemistry at TU Chemnitz in 2003. Since 2009 he has been Professor of Technical Chemistry and Heterogeneous Catalysis at the University of Stuttgart.
