Thanks to more than 40 sponsors, 180 committed and high-achieving students will again receive a Deutschlandstipendium at the University of Stuttgart this year.
For the first time since 2019, company representatives, foundations and associations were able to come together to celebrate the presentation of certificates together with the students on September 26 at the Haus der Wirtschaft. In addition to the welcome speeches and the presentation of certificates, the focus was also on getting to know each other and exchanging ideas.
The Deutschlandstipendium from the Perspective of Diversity and Internationalism
Prof. Wieprecht, Vice Rector for Diversity and Internationalization, addressed the audience and thanked the sponsors on behalf of the entire rectorate and congratulated the students on receiving their scholarships.
She emphasized the consideration of so-called "soft criteria" in the selection process, as well as supporting scholarship holders with a broad focus outside their own professional fields. In this context, she also emphasized the diversity and variety at the university and the great benefits this brings to everyone.
Wieprecht added a very personal touch to this memorable evening, telling of the 'happiness box' that she and her husband use to write down beautiful moments and reflect on them together at the end of the year. She went on to say that this special evening will also be added to the box.
The welcome speeches and the rest of the evening were accompanied by music from the trio 'Umlaut'.
Special support for students studying STEM subjects
Representing the sponsoring company, Léonie Trick from the Vector Foundation also delivered a welcome speech. In her speech, she emphasized the impact that teachers have on the development of young people. For this reason, for over ten years the foundation has placed a special focus on supporting student teachers in STEM subjects.
In addition to foundations, associations and private individuals, Airbus was also present as an example of a large company that has been a sponsor from the very beginning. In this context, Dr. Thomas Gogel from Airbus Helicopters Germany praised the diversity in the ranks of the sponsors. He remarked that, as a large enterprise, strategic partners are selected very carefully. The University of Stuttgart is an important partner due to the high level of professional consensus and the quality of education and research. He praised the scholarship recipients for their outstanding achievements and encouraged them to remain so committed.
Foreign students also benefitted greatly from the program
Tassneem Helal, an information technology student, emphasized how important such support is, especially for foreign students. Particularly during the pandemic, it would have been very difficult to fully concentrate on studying without this support, and to make the dream of studying at the University of Stuttgart reality.
Fabian Jakob also confirmed this. He is master's student studying technical cybernetics and emphasized what an honor it is to receive the Deutschlandstipendium - because just one percent of all students receive a scholarship. All scholarship holders should accept this appreciation of their own performance and personal commitment.
