The 2025 THE World University Ranking by Subject, published by Times Higher Education (THE), has been released. In this subject-specific ranking, the University of Stuttgart was once again placed among the top 125 of 1,488 universities worldwide in the subject of “Engineering”. Since 2023, the university has maintained its strong ranking in this subject area, securing a position among the top 8% worldwide.
The success of the engineering sciences is largely attributed to the highly rated indicators: “Research Environment,” “Teaching,” and “Industry.” For these indicators, the University of Stuttgart is among the top 3% (Industry) or 6% worldwide.
Great research environment and teaching in Computer Science
The university is one of the top 150 in the world in the field of computer science. It secured a strong ranking among the top 13% of the 1,122 universities evaluated. It excelled in the indicators “Research Environment” (top 9% globally) and “Teaching” (top 10% globally).
Physical Sciences ranked highly in external funding and patent citations
The field of "Physical Sciences", encompassing physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, astronomy, and geosciences, is highly rated in the ranking for its exceptional strength in securing external funding and for the prominence of its research, as evidenced by citations in patents. In the “Industry” indicator, the university was ranked 84th out of 1.447 universities ranked, putting it in the top 6% internationally.
