The head of the study program extends his heartfelt congratulations

"As someone who does sport for a hobby and who often skips training due to a lack of motivation, it is hard to imagine how much discipline, stamina, hard work, and, above all, time, daily training requires from professional athletes. However, I do have a much greater understanding of the energy and time required to complete a Bachelor's study program. I would like to commend the ability to successfully balance both career paths simultaneously,” says Prof. Daniel Dobslaw, head of the Environmental Engineering study program. “On behalf of his fellow students and all the professors, I would like to congratulate Maurice Schmidt on his top sporting success.”

Studying and preparing for the Paralympics

According to Schmidt, the key to balancing his studies and preparing for the Paralympics was in the planning of his first three semesters: “I didn't overfill my timetable and, thanks to good communication with the lecturers, I was able to avoid absences from compulsory courses such as laboratory practicals.” Preparing for the Paralympics became more serious in the past few months: “I applied for a leave of absence for the 2024 summer semester. This allowed me to focus fully on the sport and ultimately bring home the gold medal. Starting from the upcoming winter semester, I will once again be able to fully dedicate myself to my studies.”
