Tilman Pfau, director of 5th Institute of Physics at the University of Stuttgart and the joint Stuttgart/Ulm Center for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology (IQST),has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Senior BEC Award. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions of Tilman Pfau and his group "for his pioneering experiments on long-range interacting quantum gases of dipolar atoms and Rydberg excitations".
The Senior BEC Award is a distinguished honor given to individuals whose work had a profound impact on the field of quantum degenerate gases. Pfau's groundbreaking research in the realm of quantum gases has significantly advanced the understanding of the fascinating world of ultra-cold matter, with applications ranging from fundamental physics to quantum computing and precision measurement.
The award ceremony took place on September 12, under the auspices of the biannual “Bose-Einstein Condensation 2023” (BEC) conference (9.-15. September, 2023) in Sant Feliu de Guixols in Spain. During the ceremony, Pfau received a cash prize of 2,500 Euro and a certificate recognizing his outstanding contributions to the field. The award is sponsored by TOPTICA Photonics AG.
Further prizes for Tilman Pfau
The list of prizes and awards conferred on Pfau is long. Most recently, the renewed award of the prestigious, highly endowed Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) to Pfau highlighted the internationally pioneering quantum research of the scientist.
