Update: At the beginning of October 2024, the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Sustainable Development was established, which is held by Prof. Dr. Manfred Bischoff. The tasks of the Sustainability Officer are thus absorbed into this office.

Prof. Bischoff commented on his new role and emphasized the importance of sustainability at the University of Stuttgart: "The University of Stuttgart has a long tradition of cutting-edge research, and we need to ensure that our activities are in line with the principles of sustainability. I am honored by the trust placed in me to take on this new role, and I look forward to working with all those involved in this field, to make our university a more sustainable institution and make a positive contribution to addressing the energy and climate crisis."

Manfred Bischoff's appointment comes at a time when environmental sustainability and the energy crisis are becoming increasingly urgent. As Sustainability Officer, Vice Rector Bischoff will focus on environmental sustainability and work with all University entities toward the goal of integrating sustainability into teaching and research, as well as focusing on promoting a general awareness of sustainable practices among the entire university community.

In addition to chairing the Sustainability Round Table, which comprises representatives from academia, administration, and the student body, the Sustainability Officer is a member of the Energy and Climate Protection Research Group. Here, administration and scientists work together to find solutions to reduce the university's energy consumption, promote renewable energies and implement efficient energy use. This includes the appointment of decentralized energy officers in all organizational units as one component on the path to becoming an energy-efficient and climate-neutral university.

Under the motto "Think more. Use less. Save energy. Together!" we are calling upon the entire university community to continue to use energy resources sparingly and consciously.
