Have you ever noticed the red cuboids and constructs on Campus Vaihingen opposite the S-Bahn station? Or the fountain in front of the building at Pfaffenwaldring 47? They are just a few examples of art objects that make up the "learning street". This connects the area between the bus loop and the cafeteria on Campus Vaihingen and features various art objects, designed between 1978 and 1985 by the artist group "Kunst und Zwischenraum".
Now, employees at the University of Stuttgart have designed a special tour of these objects. Professor Markus Stroppel, Dr. Marc Scheffler and Katja Engstler from Faculty 8 - Mathematics and Physics selected ten of the art objects and developed mathematical and physics ideas from them. A mathematical-physics tour of the campus was created that explains and interprets the artistic elements of the learning street from a mathematical and physics perspective. The tour is aimed at school students, students, employees and interested parties.
"What is astounding, is that you have probably walked past most of the objects many times, and suddenly you see them in a completely different light," says Engstler. She designed the tour together with Professor Stroppel and Dr. Scheffler, to pass on her enthusiasm for mathematics and physics. "It was important to us that the tour is not only available as a guided tour, but that anyone can explore it themselves with their smartphone." That's why the tour can be accessed online and includes interactive elements to try out on site.
