October 15, 2020

The Center for Interdisciplinary Risk and Innovation Studies (ZIRIUS) at the University of Stuttgart presents its annual report 2019-2020

How can a sustainable turnaround be achieved in major infrastructure systems, especially in the areas of energy supply and mobility? In the context of the corona pandemic, how can trade-offs such as health protection and the protection of freedom be addressed in the best possible way, so that people’s thinking will be both in-depth and integrative? How must civic participation be structured, so that it appears legitimate in the eyes of the citizens?

With these and many other topics, the new ZIRIUS Report focuses on questions of democratic technology design and political communication. Among other things, the new ZIRIUS labs are presented as spaces of research and method development: They are concerned with topics such as cross-impact balance analysis (CIB Lab), corporate resilience (Corporate Resilience Lab) as well as critical reflection and civic participation (Participation and Deliberation Lab).

In addition, the authors report on current projects and events. It becomes clear that the major social issues of technology development and political legitimacy are being examined at the Center for Interdisciplinary Risk and Innovation Studies at the University of Stuttgart.
