Pull-ups, push-ups and dips: sport enthusiasts are now able to train at the outdoor fitness area at Pfaffenwaldring 11, behind Sporthalle Keltenschanze. The fitness area is open around the clock and all employees and students at the University of Stuttgart are welcome to use it free of charge.
Outdoor fitness area
The main element of the fitness center is a so-called calisthenics course, where athletes can do exercises on bars of various heights using their own body weight. Those looking for more athletic challenges can let off steam on the back stretcher, handstand bar and squat platform or train their balance on the slackline. Next to the area with fall protection flooring made of pearl gravel, an inviting lawn offers the perfect place to play soccer or relax in the sun.
Since 2017, University Sports and stuvus have been working with the University Construction Office to plan and implement the outdoor fitness area. At a cost of approximately EUR 55,000, the fitness area was financed in part by funding from the Department of Sport and Exercise of the City of Stuttgart, Stuwe e.V. and the Association of Friends of the University of Stuttgart e.V.
In the future, stuvus plans to make further improvements to the outdoor sports area, by adding goal posts, sports equipment or tables and benches. University Sports also continues to support the project: "The aim of this facility is to offer students and employees, as well as interested members of the public, the opportunity to improve their fitness in an outdoor area where there are no time constraints," says Melanie Haag, manager of University Sports. She adds, "Beginning in the summer semester, we will also be offering outdoor fitness courses at this facility. This will enhance campus life in Vaihingen." The official opening will be marked with a small celebration at the start of the summer semester 2022.
