We, the members and affiliates of the University of Stuttgart, are aware of our social and personal responsibility and therefore provide this Code of Conduct in the form of a voluntary commitment. These are our guidelines for respectful behavior in daily interaction with each other.
Practiced diversity
We see diversity as an enrichment in our lives. We respect all people regardless of their status, gender, origin, skin color, religion, worldview, age, health impairment, or sexual orientation and support different life situations and life plans.
We are committed to putting equality into practice at our university in order to ensure true equal opportunities and equal participation in research, teaching, learning, and continuing education.
A fair communication and conflict culture
We treat each other openly and respectfully, and communicate fairly and in a spirit of partnership in all areas of our university - irrespective of status and group affiliation.
Freedom of speech is an important part of our university culture. We communicate with each other with mutual respect, tolerance, openness, and accountability and resolve conflicts objectively and constructively.
Inappropriate behavior and discrimination
The following behavior, in particular, is unacceptable at the University of Stuttgart:
- Sexual harassment and sexual discrimination. This includes verbal, non-verbal, and physical sexually-determined or sexualized conduct in the course of study or in the workplace that is harassing, offensive, derogatory, or humiliating and consequently unwelcome.
- Bullying. An act affecting a person’s dignity that deliberately and systematically offends as well as devalues, isolates, or excludes them.
- Threats and violence. Activities that assault, threaten, or psychologically or physically harm others while studying or working.
